Curator's view

The exhibition Nolde and the North is dedicated for the first time to Emil Nolde's early work as reflected in Danish art. After visiting the 1900 World's Fair in Paris, Nolde decided to travel to Copenhagen to study the art of Danish painters. The stay was to become a turning point for him both artistically and privately.

In the exhibition, around 80 works by Nolde are juxtaposed with paintings by artists such as Georg Achen, Anna Ancher, Vilhelm Hammershøi, Peter Ilsted, Peder Severin Krøyer, Laurits Andersen Ring and others.
