Commitment to a vibrant society
The ZEIT-Stiftung was called into being by Gerd Bucerius in 1971. It exclusively and directly pursues not-for-profit goals. According to its articles of association, it provides support in the areas of science and education as well as art and culture. The Foundation applies a portion of its available resources toward projects and institutions it has developed itself, such as the Bucerius Law School and the Bucerius Summer School on Global Governance. In addition to these operational activities it also provides support in all three areas upon application by third parties. Through its sponsorship, the Foundation desires to stimulate new developments in the sciences, education and culture, enable innovative projects, spur talented youth to exceptional achievements and encourage creativity. The Foundation sees its work as a contribution toward a viable civil society whose success depends upon the special ability of private initiatives and the willingness to take on responsibility.
